Stall: Chuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck
Address105 Yishun Ring Rd, #01-161 Chong Pang Market & Food Centre, Singapore 760105
I typically enjoy duck rice with a mild herbal flavor, as it enhances the dish wonderfully. The duck meat was tender, though it usually had less skin than I prefer. The braised sauce and duck meat were quite generous. In addition, they offer side dishes such as braised eggs, dou gan, and a few slices of cucumber which is quite worth it. The accompanying herbal soup was also very fragrant.

CLAYPOT RICE

Stall: Yew Chuan Claypot Rice
Address:  505 Beach Rd, #01-73 Golden Mile Food Centre, Singapore 199583
Authentic clay pot rice cooked over a stove fire is rare these days, but Yew Chuan Claypot Rice prepares this dish with love. The salted fish inside is exceptional, and the clay pot is so well seasoned that the crispy bits easily scrape off at the end, making them a delight to enjoy. Don’t forget to smash the salted fish when mixing!

LOR MEE

The white steamed chicken is exceptionally tender, with juicy, moist skin that’s delicious on its own. The chicken feet, rich in collagen, provide a delightful chewy texture and are prepared in a zesty, refreshing style that enhances the overall experience.

CHWEE KUEH   *Bib Gourmand Michelin Guide*

Stall: Jian Bo Chwee Kueh
Address: 30 Seng Poh Rd, #02-05, Singapore 168898  (Tiong Bahru Market)
Awarded Michelin recognition from 2021 to 2024, this stall’s steamed rice cakes (Chwee Kueh) topped with preserved radish and chili are melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The Chye Poh is perfectly balanced, not overly salty. This is truly one of the best Chwee Kueh experiences you won’t want to miss.

PIG’S ORGAN SOUP

Stall: Koh Brother Pig’s organ Soup
Address: 30 Seng Poh Rd, #02-29, Singapore 168898
Koh Brother Pig’s Organ Soup has been a staple since the 1950s, now expertly run by the 2nd and 3rd generation of hawkers. The soup is consistently well-prepared and delicious, providing a comforting, uplifting experience no matter the weather.

9. Maxwell Food Centre (CBD AREA)

Maxwell Food Centre, established in 1987 is one of Singapore’s most iconic hawker centres, known for its rich history and an incredible variety of local delicacies. Located in the heart of Chinatown, it’s a must-visit spot for both locals and tourists. I must say they are cleaner than other hawker centers I have visited. Here are five of the best foods you should try at Maxwell Food Centre:

CHICKEN RICE

Stall: Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
Address: 1 Kadayanallur St, #01-10/11 Maxwell Food Centre, Singapore 069184
Perhaps the most famous dish at Maxwell, Tian Tian’s Hainanese Chicken Rice is one of the best food which has earned international acclaim, including a nod from the late Anthony Bourdain. The dish features tender, succulent chicken served with fragrant, perfectly cooked rice that’s infused with chicken fat and pandan. I like how the chili sauce and ginger paste elevate the dish, adding a spicy and aromatic kick that perfectly complements the savory chicken.

SUGARCANE JUICE

Stall: Maxwell Coconut & Sugarcane Juice
Address:  1 Kadayanallur St, #01-34 Maxwell Food Centre, Singapore 069184
Aside from the pure surgarcane juice, there were options of lemon sugarcane, sour plum sugarcane, and soursop, catering to various tastes. These refreshing beverages are perfect for cooling off in Singapore’s hot weather.

ROJAK & POPIAH

Stall: Rojak Popiah & Cockle
Address: 1 Kadayanallur St, #01-56, Singapore 069184
The rojak sauce was irresistibly addictive and potent, with the perfect balance of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors. Fresh, crunchy fruits and crispy vegetables, topped with generous peanut shavings, add a delightful nuttiness and varied texture to the dish. It’s one of the best rojak I’ve tried. The popiah is also worth sampling.

FISH HEAD BEE HOON

Stall: Jin Hua Fish Head Bee Hoon
Address: 1 Kadayanallur St, #01-77, Singapore 069184
This stall is renowned for its Fish Head Bee Hoon, a comforting dish with a flavorful fish broth made by simmering fish bones. You can opt for a clear broth or a creamy version enhanced with evaporated milk. The soup features either fish head or boneless fried fish, served with thick rice vermicelli (bee hoon). Topped with fried shallots and vegetables, it’s a satisfying and hearty meal ideal for any time of day.

10. Lau Pa Sat (CBD AREA)

Lau Pa Sat, also known as Telok Ayer Market, is one of Singapore’s most iconic and historic food centres. Located in the heart of the Central Business District, it’s famous for its beautiful Victorian architecture and a wide variety of local and international foods. Here are five of the best dishes you should try at Lau Pa Sat:

SATAY

Stall: Satay street at Lau Pa Sat
Address: Boon Tat Street (Stalls 7 & 8) or Power Satay (Stall 9 &10)
Lau Pa Sat is renowned for its satay, especially in the evening when the street atmosphere is lively and bustling. The outside is transforms into Satay Street where you get marinated meat skewers (chicken, beef, lamb, or prawns). The only drawn back is the smoke since the satay is grilled over charcoal to perfection, giving them a smoky, charred flavor.

HEALTHY DIETARY MEAL

Stall: Thunder Tea Rice
Address: Raffles Quay, Stall #25 18, Singapore 048582
Thunder tea rice a traditional Hakka dish known for its unique blend of flavors and health benefits. This hearty meal is something you will not often see in hawker centre. This hearty meal features steamed rice topped with fresh vegetables, tofu, and nuts, served with a refreshing green tea-based herbal paste made from green tea leaves, mint, and herbs.

PANCAKES MIN JIANG KUEH

Stall: Munchi Pancakes
Address: 18 Raffles Quay, Stall 61 Lau Pa Sat Hawker Centre, Singapore 048582
Experience a nostalgic taste of yesteryears with this stall, which serves a variety of sweet and savory pancakes known for their fluffy texture and diverse fillings. From classic options like peanuts, chocolate, and banana to unique choices like savory cheese and ham, Munchi Pancakes offers a satisfying treat for every palate.

11. Hong Lim Market & Food Centre (CBD AREA)

CHAR KWAY TEOW

Stall: Outram Park Fried Kway Teow Mee
Address: 531A Upper Cross St, #02-17, Singapore 051531
This stall serves an outrageously good char kway teow with a perfect balance of flavors and a delightful charred aroma. The fresh, chewy cockles and perfectly cooked noodles, neither too dry nor too wet, make this dish stand out. It’s a nostalgic and authentic rendition of char kway teow, distinct from the modern versions overloaded with sausages, fish cakes, and other extras.

CURRY CHICKEN NOODLES

Stall: Heng Kee Curry Chicken Bee Hoon Mee
Address: 531A Upper Cross St, #01-58, Singapore 051531
T
his dish is nothing short of a culinary masterpiece. The addition of potato in this delectable curry chicken noodle is the true unsung hero, complementing the chicken beautifully. It brings a satisfying depth of flavor and texture that elevates the dish to a whole new level. Paired with tender chunks of succulent chicken and perfectly cooked noodles, all enveloped in a luxuriously rich and aromatic gravy, In fact, it’s no exaggeration to say that this is one of the best curry chicken noodle dishes I’ve ever tried. Just be prepared for a long wait during peak hours. Note this is Level 1 Heng Kee Curry Chicken Noodle, not Ah Heng Curry chicken above this stall at level 2.

WANTON NOODLES

Stall: Ji Ji Wanton Noodle Specialist
Address: 531A Upper Cross St, #02-48/49, Singapore 051531
This dish comes generously loaded with char siew, leafy greens, and your choice of either fried or soup wantons. What truly stands out are the springy, chewy noodles that soak up the homemade sauce, free from any alkaline taste typical of yellow noodles. The generous amount of heavenly pork lard elevates the noodles even further. Even the accompanying soup is enhanced with goji berries, adding a touch of sweetness!

12. Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market & Hawker Centre (CENTRAL REGION)

CENDOL

Stall: Four Seasons Cendol 01-56
Address: 210 Lor 8 Toa Payoh, #01-56, Singapore 310210
The cendol is served in a cup rather than the traditional bowl, with a generous amount of gula melaka that ensures the ice blend is full of flavor. The grass jelly adds a smooth and silky texture to the dessert. It was incredibly refreshing, especially in Singapore’s heat. For durian enthusiasts, they also offer a durian-flavored version that’s worth trying!

CHAR KWAY TEOW

Stall: Da Lao Fried White Kway Teow (#01-23)
Address: 210 Lor 8 Toa Payoh, #01-23, Singapore 310210
For excellent wok hei char kway teow, enjoy it served hot on a plate here. The cockles are large and fresh, and the bean sprouts have just the right crunch, adding texture without being too soft. Overall, the char kway teow here is superb!

HOKKEIN MEE

Stall: Original Simon Road Hokkien Mee
Address: 210 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh, #01-11, Toa Payoh Lorong 8, &, Hawker Centre, Market, 310211
This Hokkien mee is the drier version, with a generous serving. It features a good mix of yellow noodles and thinner vermicelli, unlike the smoother, thicker white bee hoon. The thin vermicelli absorbs the stock faster, making it drier. They usually offer two types of chili, so if you prefer just one, let them know in advance.

BEEF NOODLES

Stall: Shengtai Beef Noodles
Address: 210 Lor 8 Toa Payoh, #01-26, Singapore 310210
Most people visit for the soup, so I opted for the beef noodle soup with thick white bee hoon. The broth is rich in flavor, perfectly balanced—not too salty or herbal. The beef brisket and tendon are spot on, neither too soft nor tough. Overall, it’s a comforting dish. And don’t forget to try their chili—it’s a must!

13. Haig Road Market & Food Centre (CENTRAL REGION)

PUTU PIRING

Stall: Haig Road Putu Piring
Address: 14 Haig Rd, #01-07, Singapore 430014
This place sells the best  Putu Piring. The rice flour base is soft and fluffy, with just the right amount of gula melaka, and the freshly grated coconut (kelapa parut) adds a fragrant touch. It’s perfectly balanced—not too sweet. The best part is that it’s made fresh to order, so it’s served hot!

MEE REBUS

Stall: Afandi Hawa & Family Mee Rebus
Address: 14 Haig Rd, #01-21, Singapore 430014
The Mee Rebus here is served with a rich, thick gravy that’s both piping hot and delightful. Fresh green chili and crispy fried shallots add a fantastic crunch to the dish. It includes a hard-boiled egg, and adding a begedil makes for a hearty, satisfying meal that’s not only delicious but also great value. Their Mee Soto is equally impressive, with a flavorful broth and tender chicken chunks.

KOLO MEE

Stall: 林玉梅 Sarawak Laksa & Kolo Mee
Address: 14 Haig Rd, #01-33, Singapore 430014
If you haven’t tried kolo mee before, the noodles resemble instant noodles in texture and are served dry. The kolo mee here is cooked to perfection with a nice, springy texture. The dish is topped with char siew, minced meat, fried onions, and crispy lard. While the minced meat is flavorful, the char siew is less impressive since it’s not prepared traditionally with the charred taste. Some garnish was added which enhance the dish, making it stand out. A bowl of soup is served on the side, though it lacks depth in flavor. If you haven’t tried Sarawak laksa, this dish is also worth to try. The fusion soup becomes very flavorful once lime is squeezed in, and it includes shredded chicken, two prawns, bean sprouts, and parsley.

14. Bendemeer Market & Food Centre (CENTRAL REGION)

CHICKEN RICE

Stall: San Xi Hainanese Chicken Rice
Address: 29 Bendemeer Rd, #01-53 Bendemeer Market & Food Centre, Singapore 330029
The presentation is quite impressive, with the rice, meat, and soup served in three separate bowls. The fragrant, fluffy chicken rice comes on a plate, while the succulent, well-seasoned roasted chicken is served in another. Unlike most chicken rice stalls, they include bean sprouts with the chicken instead of cucumber. The complimentary soup features corn, carrots, chicken feet, and sometimes radish. Be sure to add their spicy chili sauce and ginger sauce!

BEEF NOODLE

Stall: 華興牛肉粉 Hwa Heng Beef Noodle
Address: 29 Bendemeer Rd, #01-86, Singapore 330029
The beef and noodle portions are generously large, with tender meat and delicious dry noodle gravy. The gravy is thick and perfectly savory, especially when mixed with their chili sauce, though the chili could be improved. The beef is flavorful and cooked just right. I opted for the dry version to enjoy the beef broth separately, as the flavor differs when noodles are added if you are ordering the soup ones. A generous amount of bean sprouts is also added as a topping.

LAKSA

Stall: Min Ji Laksa
Address: 29 Bendemeer Rd, #01-31, Bendemeer Market & Food Centre, Singapore 330029
The laksa broth is well-balanced, with neither the coconut nor curry being too strong, and the consistency is just right—not too thick. It has a pleasant coconut fragrance without being overly rich or too spicy. The dish includes a generous amount of ingredients like tau pok, cockles, eggs, and shredded chicken. I especially enjoy the large, fully cooked cockles with fish cake, but I prefer my laksa without tau pok and shredded chicken for a more authentic, old-school feel.

15. Upper Boon Keng Market & Food Centre (CENTRAL REGION)

MUTTON SOUP

Stall: Haji M. Abdul Rajak stall (Soup Kambing)
Address: 17 Upper Boon Keng Rd, #01-03, Singapore 380017
This is the legendary mutton soup (soup kambing) that has been around for years. I usually avoid mutton due to its strong smell, but this stall changed my mind. The soup boasts rich, robust flavors without the overpowering mutton taste. Every spoonful is packed with slow-cooked goodness, with spices and herbs blending harmoniously. The thick soup and tender mutton pieces make for a satisfying, hearty meal. You can also add bread for a more filling experience. While many dip the bread into the soup, I’ve been told it’s better to soak it all in. Either way, it’s deliciously savory.

16. Blk 75 Lorong 5 Toa Payoh Food Centre (CENTRAL REGION)

CHAR KWAY TEOW

Stall: Soon Lee Fried Kway Teow (#01-09)
Address: 75 Lorong 5 Toa Payoh, Toa Payoh E, #01-09, Singapore 310075
The wok hei in this Char Kway Teow is well-balanced, not overpowering. The dish features cockles and fish cake slices stir-fried with a mix of kway teow and yellow noodles, along with eggs and bean sprouts. If you prefer a more traditional style, you can skip the fish cake and bean sprouts, but it’s best to request this when the stall isn’t too busy. Small bits of lard and a touch of black sauce are added to enhance the flavor. Overall, quite satisfying dish.

DRY MEE HOON KUEH

Stall: HE JIA HUAN BAN MIAN MEE HOON KWAY
Address: 75 Lor. 5 Toa Payoh, #01-14, Singapore 310075
This was my first time trying dry mee hoon kueh, and it didn’t disappoint. The handmade noodles were nearly perfect, and the dark soy sauce added a pleasant sweetness. The chili can be quite spicy, but I enjoyed the kick. The dish also included chunks of lightly marinated minced meat, spinach, and eggs. The accompanying soup was really good, though I was hoping for some pork lard and fried anchovies to be added to my mee hoon kueh. Their soup you mian and ban mian is good too

FISH BALL NOODLE

Stall: Song Kee Kway Teow Noodle Soup (#01-20)
Address: 75 Lor. 5 Toa Payoh, #01-20, Singapore 310075
This stall has been around for 30-35 years and doesn’t have a menu—probably because most of their customers are regulars. You just order the type of noodle you want and specify whether you prefer it in soup or dry. The fishballs and meatballs are handmade, making them less salty and fresher. Their handmade fish dumplings are also worth trying. While I found the dry noodle version a bit too oily for my taste, the soup version was excellent.

17. Holland Village Market & Food Centre  (CENTRAL REGION)

NASI LEMAK

Stall: 363 Katong Laksa
Address: 1 Lor Mambong, #01-15, Singapore 277700

The portion of this meal is generous. I’ve never had so many peanuts and ikan bilis included in my nasi lemak before. The chicken was fresh, crispy, and piping hot, as if it had just come out of the fryer. Their chili is very tasty, with just the right amount of sweetness and a mild spice level.

CHICKEN CHOP

Stall: Chang Sheng Western Food
Address: 1 Lor Mambong, #01-30, Singapore 277700
This stall serves a fantastic chicken chop at an economical price. It comes with classic sides like fries, coleslaw, baked beans, and a sunny-side-up egg. The chicken is nicely grilled and drizzled with a delicious blend of mushroom and black pepper sauce. It’s so good that you won’t be tempted to try other Western dishes. The pork cutlet is excellent too!

18. Newton Food Centre (CENTRAL REGION)

Newton Food Centre is one of Singapore’s most famous hawker centres, known for its lively atmosphere and a wide variety of delicious local dishes. It has even gained international attention as a must-visit foodie destination. Here are three of the best foods to try at Newton Food Centre:

CHILLI CRAB

Stall: Alliance Seafood
Address: 500 Clemenceau Ave N, #01-27 Circus Food Centre, Singapore 229495
Chilli Crab is a quintessential best Singaporean food, and Newton Food Centre serves some of the best. The fresh, succulent crab is cooked in a rich, tangy, and slightly sweet chili sauce. The sauce is blended with tomatoes, chili, garlic, and eggs, is perfect for mopping up with fried mini mantou (buns). The crabs are usually large and meaty, ensuring a satisfying meal. This dish is a must-try for anyone visiting Newton.

Satay & BBQ Chicken Wings
*Bib Gourmand Michelin Guide*

Stall: R&B Express
Address: 500 Clemenceau Ave N, #01-76, Singapore 229495
Try the satay and chicken wings at R&B Express in Newton Food Centre for their exceptional taste and quality. The satay is perfectly grilled with a savory, slightly sweet marinade, while the chicken wings are crispy and juicy. Both dishes are beloved for their rich flavors and consistent preparation, making them standout choices in a vibrant food setting in Newton food centre

OYSTER OMELETTE (Orh Luak)

Stall: Hup Kee Fried Oyster Omelette
Address: 500 Clemenceau Ave N, Newton Circus, #01-73 Food Centre, 229495
The Oyster Omelette at Newton Food Centre is a must-try for oyster lovers. The oysters are often huge and plump, and the eggs are fried with a bit of starch, making the omelette crispy and slightly gooey. It’s usually served with a tangy chili sauce that complements the rich flavor of the oysters and eggs. The combination of crispy edges and juicy oysters makes this dish a standout.

19. Adam Road Food Centre (CENTRAL REGION)

Adam Road Food Centre, located near the Bukit Timah area in Singapore, is a small but mighty hawker centre known for its excellent selection of local dishes. It’s especially popular for its Malay and Indian-Muslim cuisine.

NASI LEMAK

Stall: Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak
Address: 2 Adam Rd, #01-02 Food Centre, Singapore 289876
Selera Rasa nasi lemak is undoubtedly one of the best in Singapore that I have tried. The rice is super fragrant, served with crispy fried chicken wing, ikan bilis (anchovies), peanuts, a fried egg, and a generous dollop of sambal chili.. Every ingredient is fresh and delicious. The chicken wing is fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The otah is flavourful and complements the dish wonderfully. And the sambal chilli adds a sweet and spicy kick that ties the whole dish together.

MEE SOTO & MEE REBUS
*Bib Gourmand Michelin Guide*

Stall: Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari also known as Warong Pak Sapari
Address: 2 Adam Rd, #01-09, Singapore 289876
This stall serves genuine Malay soto, slow-cooked with fresh herbs rather than the powdered mixes found elsewhere. Their Mee Rebus features egg noodles in a savory gravy, topped with eggs, tofu, chili, and lime, creating a well-balanced flavor profile. My favorite is their Mee Soto, which boasts a flavorful, light broth with hearty yellow Hokkien noodles, perfectly balanced with sweet and spicy notes. They’re also renowned for their begedil (fried potato patties), a great addition to the Mee Soto. Overall, their portions are generous and well-priced.

INDIAN ROJAK

Stall: Adam’s Indian Rojak
Address: 2 Adam Rd, #01-05, Singapore 289876
Adam’s Indian Rojak serves a delectable take on this vibrant dish. Each piece is freshly heated to order in hot oil, ensuring they stay crispy and not greasy—a quality I’ve missed at other stalls. The standout feature is the dipping sauce: thick, rich, and full of flavor, with a balanced citrusy taste that isn’t overly sweet. Overall, the rojak consistently arrives piping hot, making for a thoroughly satisfying meal.

CHAR KWAY TEOW

Can be quite a sinful dish. The ratio of the kway teow and noodle is just right. The crispy bits of lard add an irresistible depth of flavor that clings beautifully to the noodles. The clams are big, plump and juicy, perfectly complementing the noodles for a harmonious bite every time!” Just make sure you drink lots of water after this dish as you can get quite thirsty after that.

FISHBALL NOODLES

Stall: Hock Seng Choon Fishball Kway Teow Mee (#01-50)
Address: 16 Bedok S Rd, #01-50, Singapore 460016
The blend of tomato and spicy dry noodles was delicious, and the clear fishball soup was both simple and comforting. The homemade fishballs were bouncy and chewy, with just the right amount of saltiness, and the fish dumplings were excellent as well. However, even though there were five fishballs in the soup, they were quite small. It would be great if the fishballs could be larger or if an additional 1-2 fishballs could be added.
